May 7, 2011The first large scale project I took on after going freelance was to build a suite of magazine supporting websites for CBS Media. These sites were intended to support their portfolio of trade magazine products which are distributed across Europe, Asia and parts of Africa. The sites created were to support the magazines EuroAsia Industry, EuroAsia Construction and EuroAsia Energy. Each required a different set of design templates and subtly different functionality.
Due to sheer scale of content each site would need to support, I created a next generation content management system called M2. M2 was designed to be able to easily re-skinnable, highly maintainable and also to be easily extendable in order to add new features to the site in the future.
M2 supported advanced features out of the box such as built in video and audio players, support for RSS feeds, image galleries, dynamically configurable page lists, multiple independent page navigations and much more.
M2 is still used today as the base CMS for all three sites in the suite. Over time the M2 system grew into a solid out of the box CMS product which has been used on several other sites and which was eventually upgraded to become the M3 system I use today on all standard CMS based websites I build.
