Opening Doors

May 13, 2011

Opening doors is a user led organisation run by people with learning difficulties for people with learning difficulties.  As such they required an accessibility focussed website and CMS system which was clear and easy to use, at the same time as providing a large amount of information in an easily digestible way.

The design is focussed on Easy Read requirements promoting visual pointers for navigation in the form of descriptive images and large navigation targets.  Text sizes are also larger to cater for users with visual impairments and key information such as office addresses, contact details and opening times are available on all pages.

The opening doors CMS system was designed from the ground up to be accessible and mirrors the front-end of the website closely in design an navigation to simplify use.  Despite this, it is well featured, supporting facilities such as category management, inline image and file uploads and rich text editing.

All functionality was developed by myself, with Chris Ridley and Darryl Donnelly assisting with front-end build and visual design respectively.
